Frequently Asked Questions.
Answers to common questions about deck replacement, deck resurfacing, new deck construction, fencing, siding, windows, doors, demolition, estimates, permits, scheduling, and working with OJB Solutions.
Deck Questions
Deck replacement, resurfacing and new construction.
Decks are a primary focus for OJB Solutions, including full replacement, resurfacing, new construction, repairs, railings, stairs, and elevated or hillside projects.
Resurfacing can make sense when the underlying framing is suitable to remain and the main problem is worn or outdated deck boards. Full replacement is more appropriate when significant structural components such as joists, beams, posts, footings, stairs, or the ledger need extensive work. Learn about deck replacement or deck resurfacing.
Yes. Composite decking such as Trex, TimberTech, and other approved systems can be used on new deck construction, complete deck replacement, or resurfacing projects when the structure is suitable for the selected product.

Yes. Deck projects can include new stairs, guards, handrails, wood railings, composite railing, aluminum railing, and related framing depending on the approved project scope.
Yes. Elevated and sloped-lot decks may require different footing, post, beam, bracing, engineering, access, or permit considerations, which we evaluate as part of the project.
Many OJB Solutions projects are completed within approximately 1–2 weeks once construction begins. Actual timing depends on project size, structural complexity, materials, weather, permits, engineering, inspections, and current scheduling.
Estimates & Scheduling
Getting your project started.
Yes. We provide free estimates for approved project types throughout the Portland metro.
Yes. Same-day estimate appointments are available in many Portland metro locations depending on schedule and location.
Yes. We provide a written estimate describing the approved work before construction begins. If concealed conditions or requested changes require work outside that scope, additional work is discussed and documented before proceeding.
Many projects can be scheduled within approximately 1–2 weeks, although materials, project complexity, permits, engineering, inspections, weather, and existing scheduling can affect the actual start date.
Permits & Inspections
We help coordinate required project approvals.
Yes. When permits are required for work included in our project, OJB Solutions handles permit coordination and required inspection scheduling.
Not every deck project has the same permit requirements. The need for a permit depends on the project scope, deck configuration, attachment, height, structural work, and local jurisdiction.
Some deck and exterior projects require engineered details or structural drawings. When engineering is necessary, it is handled as part of the project process and may be priced separately from the base construction scope.
Exterior Services
Fencing, siding, windows and doors.
We install and replace cedar, wood, vinyl, chain-link, ornamental, and other approved fence systems. We also build and replace gates and perform selected fence repairs.
Yes. We perform full siding replacement, new siding installation, and targeted siding repairs depending on the condition of the home and the approved project scope.
Yes. We install replacement and new-construction windows, including framing, flashing, insulation, sealing, and exterior finish work as required by the project.
